An overture of dazzled moths. The sickness of an upside-down camera takes us back to the most ancient theater, nature, in a hybrid genre, melodrama. A chorus of baritone cicadas repeats a long sentence without emphasis. Then, human actors speak from the other side, not showing themselves, as specters do. The voices seem to arise from the earth, they vibrate from the grass-strings burned by summer. There is no lack of tuberculosis’s kisses – which are typical in operas –, but they happen off the screen. This is what makes the difference: in opera, the deaths become serious only when their blatant gesture is denied to the sight. The scenography, then, coincides with the subject: it is a theater of nature and the actors and actresses seem to be lignified. (Laterale Film Festival)
